Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz/400 g) diced tomatoes, with juice
- 1 can (15 oz/425 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz/425 g) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian version)
- Shredded cheddar cheese, for garnish
- Sour cream, for garnish
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
Instructions

- Heat the pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
- Increase heat to medium-high. Add ground beef and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes), breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth. Mix well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the chili and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Ladle chili into bowls and garnish with cheese, sour cream, green onions, and cilantro as desired.
